About the work

An original world. A new adventure.

Beyond the Forgotten Kingdom is an original fantasy adventure shaped by Jonathan’s lifelong fascination with fantasy worlds and storytelling.

Its inspiration reaches back to childhood: King Arthur, Robin Hood, knights, dragons, princesses, elves, enchanted forests, Renaissance festivals, Halloween costumes, and even building a castle-and-dragon float with his father. That fascination continued through fantasy literature, films, games, and especially their music.

The piece does not depict an existing franchise or tell a preexisting story. It creates its own adventure from that lifetime of fantasy imagination. The listener—and, in a sense, the six horn players—occupies the role of the adventurer.

Five movements. One unfolding story.

The precise nature of the discovery and the danger remains open, allowing performers and listeners to imagine the adventure for themselves.

    Echoes of the Forgotten Kingdom

    Among forest-covered ruins, traces of a once-prosperous kingdom linger in decaying stone. A discovery suggests a journey ahead.

    Persistent motion carries the adventurer into an immense landscape of mountains, waterfalls, cliffs, wonder, and discovery.

    An old forest grows increasingly threatening as something primordial and malevolent seems to inhabit the wilderness.

Performance level

Written for experienced horn ensembles

The six parts vary in difficulty, with several requiring strong upper- or lower-register players. The work is suitable for university horn studios, professional and community ensembles, and other accomplished horn groups.

FAQ & terms

Plain-English consortium essentials

Please review these details before registering. Questions about the music may be sent through the regular contact page.

When will I receive the music?

The final full score and Horn 1–6 part PDFs will be delivered in December 2026 through Payhip. No exact December date is promised.

When is my membership confirmed?

After both registration and full payment have been received. Registration alone does not confirm membership. Enrollment closes at the end of November 30, 2026.

What may an individual member do?

The license follows the individual purchaser. The materials may be used in multiple ensembles and performances in which that commissioner personally participates, and shared with collaborators only as needed for those rehearsals and performances.

What may an organization member do?

The license permits use by musicians operating under the auspices of the licensed organization, including multiple sextets and performances. If an institution buys the membership, the license remains with that institution.

What is the exclusive period?

Commissioners have exclusive access and performance rights from delivery through June 30, 2027. The public edition is planned for July 1, 2027. Public performances during exclusivity should present the complete five-movement work.

May I record or stream a performance?

Yes. Noncommercial concert recordings, livestreams, archives, and social posts are permitted with composer and work-title credit. Commercial, monetized, or synchronization use requires separate permission.

May I print or share the PDFs?

You may print the copies reasonably needed for authorized rehearsals and performances. Redistribution outside your license is prohibited. Editable source files are not included.

May I arrange or adapt the piece?

No. All arrangement and adaptation rights remain with Jonathan Snyder. Practical substitutions may be approved case by case in writing, but do not convey arrangement rights.

Are payments refundable?

Normal consortium payments are nonrefundable. A change of mind, inability to perform, personnel change, or reasonable communicated delay does not create a refund entitlement. If Jonathan cancels or cannot complete and deliver the project, fees will be refunded in full.

Will the music be revised?

Jonathan retains final artistic and editorial control. Commissioners receive corrections and future updates to the horn-sextet edition at no additional charge; derivative arrangements are not included.

Copyright and all arrangement rights remain with Jonathan Snyder. Consortium membership grants the applicable performance-and-use license described above; it does not transfer copyright, publication rights, editable files, or permission to redistribute the materials.
