By request of the composer, Dr. Michael Schelle (http://www.schellemusic.com/1.html), I have uploaded the video that I took during my 3rd performance recital for my DMA at UNLV. This is the live performance of Dr. Schelle's "Say Goodnight, Gracie" that opened my recital. The performance was given on May 5, 2019, in Doc Rando Recital Hall at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Performers: Jonathan Snyder - Horn Sarra Hey-Folick - Clarinet Marta Płomińska - Flute Ashlea Sheridan - Contrabassoon Michael Villarreal - Stagehand Note: The performance is supposed to create tension and anxiety in the audience. The "music" is aleatoric. The performance is entirely improvised while following a set of general guidelines.

Facebook Challenges of COVID Times

In celebration of Star Wars Day (it's still Revenge of the 5th, right?) I thought I would try to get one more video of me playing a famous horn solo from the Star Wars film. Here we have the horn solo from John Williams's piece titles "Luke and Leia".

Episode I of the May 4th challenge videos in celebration of Star Wars Day 2020. This challenge video is the #MayThe4thForceThemeChallenge! Here, I have performed the well-known "Force Theme" as composed by John Williams for the 1977 movie, Star Wars. Now, this particular recording includes a bit more than the horns usually get to play. But, I felt it needed the other half of the statement heard in "Binary Sunset."

I now present to you a rather short excerpt. This horn solo, originally performed by Jim Decker, is from Leonard Bernstein's score to "On the Waterfront," a 1954 American crime drama staring Marlon Brando and Eva Marie Saint.

How about another challenge to keep you horn players motivated?! I give you the #RichardWatkinsPrometheusChallenge!!! The movie "Prometheus" premiered in 2012. It opens with a melodic horn solo performed impeccably by Richard Watkins in the cue titled "Life". Marc Streitenfeld is given composer credit for the film. However, a lot of additional music was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. This cue in particular is one of Gregson-Williams's contributions.

First there was the #AlanCivilChallenge. Then there was the #hacklemanLOWHORNchallenge. I wasn't nominated for either (though I did play the Alan Civil Challenge anyway). So, I now give you the #DeRosaRocky3challenge!!! This excerpt from "Mickey" is the heartfelt horn solo from Bill Conti's score to Rocky 3, which came out in 1982 (the year I was born)! The gorgeous horn solo was performed by the inimitable legend Vince DeRosa. I think the passage is astoundingly beautiful. So, I wanted to record it.

Well, I'm a little late to the party, and I wasn't nominated (boo-hoo), but I still felt compelled to participate in the #AlanCivilChallenge that a lot of my FB horn friends have been doing. So, here is my #AlanCivilChallenge, playing the solo from “For No One" by The Beatles.

Recordings That I Have Played On

One of the tracks from Shea Arender's album "The King Symphonic". I recorded all 3 horn parts for every track on the album.
